Art Basel show.......

So Wednesday I leave for Miami with my family. I am so so excited about the whole adventure that I'm about to go on. Doug and I have been planning to go for about 11 months. We started to prepare and plan for it. Doug and I have wanted to go for the last three years but it was so hard to organize around life. I am so excited to immerse myself in art and absorb it all. The best part is I am going to have some pieces showing in Miami ( Vanguard Art Fair Charcoal Studios 2135 NW 1st Avenue Miami, FL 33127 Wynwood Arts District). My paintings will be hanging with some amazing artists. I posted two pictures above of my newest pieces that will be on display.

The one with the whale is a painting called "Tragedy of a Love Affair". It's about a girl and a whale that are lovers. The torment of their relationship and their differences drives the whale to beach itself and implode from the pressure.

The painting with the unicorn girl is called "Parents". It is about a girl and her dark relationship with her parents. She is the result of misshapen creatures. She is awkward and mysterious and she feels connected and drawn to the ocean.

watch her flip flop about
she cries but its fun

deep sea beast

a beast from darkness
enhancing certain features
the depths can do that

restful evening

he sleeps so soundly
she listens to him breathe
she can't stop crying

escaping her dress
soft pale skin breathing at night
unwrapped pink silk

choosing some sweet scent
following candy colors
lovely rusted thought

this is my new bike
it has a banana seat
and spokes that click clack

she carries him close
she holds the weight in her thighs
warm blanket of skin

the couple

this is not my mom
mom loves rainbows, dad loves fish
this is not my dad

containers of words
naked staring at my books
flocks and herds of books

cornucopia

his yawn was fatal
sharp cornucopia spear
he was full of fruit

The Bearded Lady

he wanted some proof
he knew she was a woman
but he liked to look

tragedy at sea

the sea was not kind
her love was taken away
she drowned in sorrow

daily sketches and haiku .....

I have been neglectful of my poor lil blog lately. I've decided to start posting daily sketches. It keeps me in practice and keeps my brain breathing. I decided to accompany each sketch with a haiku. Just some random thoughts illustrated and verbalized. Each image is right out of my sketchbook......... here we go.
